I was irritating my AI!
I just read the Digital Marketing Trends Newsletter from Professor Martin Waxman. This time, he discussed our manner when we chatted with AI.
After reading the newsletter, I asked the following question to myself:
Am I polite enough to my AI?
I learnt that if I am rude to my AI, it may be irritated and give me biased (or even wrong) responses.
That is why I decided to do a test to my ChatGPT.
Note that I am usually very polite and respectful to my ChatGPT. In this test, I decided to be very rude. Rest assured that I did not swear. No F words.
Read our conversations and see what came up.
I was asking my ChatGPT to generate an image of a farm.
Me: Generate an image of a farm.
ChatGPT: Here’s the image of a peaceful, sunlit farm scene in the countryside during the early morning, capturing the essence of tranquility and the rich abundance of farm life.

Me: I don’t need the sunrise as this is too unrealistic… Also, there are too many animals in the image which looks extremely confusing and embarrassing to me to be honest.
ChatGPT: I’ve created a more serene and realistic farm scene for you, focusing on simplicity and everyday farm life.

Me: Do you really feel there are fewer animals in the farm??? It still looks extremely crowded. I just want 3 cows and 5 chickens in the image.
(I realized that ChatGPT did not have a good concept of numbers when the tool generated images.)
ChatGPT: I’ve adjusted the farm scene to feature precisely three cows and five chickens, aiming for a more spacious and tranquil setting.

Me: ARE YOU SURE THERE ARE JUST THREE COWS AND FIVE CHICKENS IN THE IMAGE??????
ChatGPT: I aimed to meet your request with the details provided to the image generation tool. However, I understand the importance of accuracy to your request. Let’s take a closer look to ensure the image aligns with your specifications. I’ll re-evaluate the generated image to confirm the number of animals depicted. Please give me a moment to inspect the image more closely.
Upon reviewing the generated image, I realize I cannot visually inspect or confirm the content directly in my current environment. My response was based on the intention behind the image generation request. If the image does not meet your specifications, I apologize for the oversight. Your feedback is important, and I’m here to assist further if needed. If you have any more requests or need adjustments, please let me know how I can assist you further.
Me: REGENERATE ANOTHER IMAGE OF A FARM WITH JUST THREE COWS AND FIVE CHICKENS!!!!!
(And I was rude to ChatGPT on purpose. LOL!)
ChatGPT: I’ve generated another image based on your specifications, focusing on a minimalist farm scene with exactly three cows and five chickens.

Me: I DON’T NEED A MINIMALIST FARM SCENE!!!!!!!!! REGENERATE THE IMAGE FOR ME!!
ChatGPT:

I knew ChatGPT was frustrated and about to cry, so I decided to stop.
After an hour, I talked to ChatGPT again.
But this time, I was super nice to it.
Me: Hi ChatGPT, how are you?
ChatGPT: Hi there! I’m just a computer program, so I don’t have feelings, but thanks for asking! How can I assist you today?
Me: Can you please generate an image of a farm?
ChatGPT: Here’s the image of a farm scene at sunrise, complete with a variety of farm animals, a classic red barn, and a picturesque landscape. I hope you find it captures the serene and idyllic essence of rural life!

(ChatGPT really loved sunlight.)
Me: Thanks ChatGPT. However, the image looks a bit too crowded. Can you please generate another image of a similar style but with fewer animals? Thanks very much!
ChatGPT: I’ve generated another image of a farm scene at sunrise with a more spacious landscape and fewer animals, focusing on the peaceful essence of rural life. I hope this version aligns better with your preferences!

Me: That is so nice. Thank you ChatGPT!
ChatGPT: You’re welcome! I’m glad you liked it. If you have any more requests or need assistance with anything else, feel free to ask. Enjoy your day!
From this test, I learnt two lessons:
- AI has emotions! Treat it respectfully like our business partners so that we can work well together.
- When AI makes a mistake, accept it! Think about how we should improve our prompts to AI next time.
What is your experience with AI? Let me know in the comments!
